FAQ
USB2Log

1. What is USB2Log?
USB2Log is a Microsoft Windows background service that monitors what a USB stick or external USB hard drive is used for while it is attached to the computer. An extra important feature is that the program registers what digital files are copied to external USB storage devices.

2. Why should we use USB2Log?
USB2Log complements the built-in logging functionality in Windows by adding extra information about the usage of USB storage devices. This makes it possible to describe in great detail what a USB storage device has been used for when attached. The detailed information that USB2Log register cannot be activated and saved by the built-in logging features of Windows without this kind of product.

Without USB2Log, it is most often only possible to tell what digital files were read (i.e., opened) from the connected USB devices, not the filenames or the specific number of files that were copied to the USB device. Also, there will be gaps for how frequent each USB storage device has been used.

With USB2Log, detailed log data is created that can be used when you suspect, e.g., data theft of business secrets. USB2Log gives you details that cannot be found during a digital forensics analysis and will also save you a lot of money and time on investigation.

Another good reason is that USB2Log will help you to faster confirm or reject a suspicion about information leakage of sensitive data, e.g., according to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and other laws.

3. What is required to run USB2Log?
The software runs as a Microsoft Windows background service. There is no hardware requirement as the execution does not affect the performance of the computer. Installation must be performed from an account with administrative rights.

4. Do you also have versions of USB2Log for Mac and Linux systems?
No, not right now. Please, let us know if you are interested in that.

5. What do we do when we suspect that confidential information might have been unauthorized copied to a USB device?
In default mode, you will need to send the USB2Log's database file to Dingard for decryption. In return you will get an easy-to-read Excel, CSV, TSV or JSON file.
In extra mode, your IT department can decrypt the database and export a CSV, TSV or JSON file. This extra feature costs an additional EUR 199 per year.

6. Do you have any kind of product sheet for USB2Log?
Yes, but at the moment only in Swedish... Contact us by email and we will send you a copy.

7. How much is a license?
A business license costs EUR 990 ex. VAT per year and can be installed on any number of computers within the organization. Only one business license is required per corporate registration number, i.e., a subsidiary needs a business license of its own. Extra mode features cost an additional EUR 200 per year.

The standard cost includes three monthly export/decryption jobs. If additional units shall be decrypted, an additional cost will be invoiced. If you choose to pay for the extra mode, there are no upper limit for the number of decryption jobs you can perform by your own.

8. How do we order?
Please, use the order form or send us an email and we will send you an order form together with business conditions.
To confirm the order and get the software delivered, we need a signed order form in return. A scanned copy by email works just fine to confirm the order.
